Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) broke into jubilation following a Supreme Court ruling that resolved the party’s leadership dispute in favour of David Mark.
The apex court set aside the earlier “status quo antebellum” order issued by the Court of Appeal, effectively affirming Mark’s position in the dispute.
Reacting to the judgment, counsel to the factional ADC chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, Robert Emukperuo, said his client would return to the Federal High Court to pursue a retrial.

In a separate but related decision, the Supreme Court also nullified the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The ruling is a major setback for the faction led by Tanimu Turaki, as a split decision by a five-member panel of the court found the appeal lacking in merit.
Delivering the lead judgment, Stephen Adah held that the appellants violated a subsisting order of the Federal High Court which restrained them from proceeding with the convention, thereby affirming earlier rulings of the lower courts.
