Aguma of Gwagwalada Commends Correctional Service for Inmate Rehabilitation

The Aguma of Gwagwalada, His Royal Highness Muhammad Magaji, has praised the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for its efforts in reforming, rehabilitating, and reintegrating offenders into society.
The monarch gave the commendation when the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Speaking during the visit, the Aguma noted the positive impact of correctional programmes on members of his community who had passed through custodial centres. He cited examples of former inmates who returned home, established businesses, and are now living productive, law-abiding lives.
He described the Service as one that is “truly transforming lives,” adding that several individuals from his community had put the skills acquired in custody to practical use and remained responsible citizens.
The traditional ruler also expressed appreciation for the Service’s reform initiatives and pledged continued support and collaboration with the correctional authorities.
In his remarks, the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with traditional institutions in line with the leadership direction of the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi.
He stressed the importance of equipping inmates with practical, marketable skills to improve their chances of successful reintegration, noting that the Service had recorded progress in transforming inmates into productive members of society.
A highlight of the visit was the presentation of items produced by inmates, demonstrating skills acquired through vocational training programmes. The exhibition underscored the Service’s emphasis on skills development as a pathway to sustainable reintegration.
The event, according to a statement signed by DSC AS Duza, ANIPR, Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, concluded with a brief photo session and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to partnerships with traditional institutions and other stakeholders in promoting rehabilitation and restorative justice.
