The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Miah Md. Kabir, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit focused on exploring strategic collaborations between Nigeria and Bangladesh in the pharmaceutical sector, including trade expansion, technological exchange, and ensuring the safety of drugs and vaccines.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner expressed Bangladesh’s readiness to partner with NAFDAC to advance the pharmaceutical industry and promote bilateral trade and investment. He highlighted Nigeria’s importance as a key partner and noted Bangladesh’s population of over 180 million as an opportunity for mutual economic growth.
Prof. Adeyeye welcomed the initiative, affirming NAFDAC’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality medicines in Nigeria. She noted that over 200 Nigerian pharmaceutical companies have attained international standards under her leadership, thanks to strict regulatory oversight and enforcement.
The NAFDAC chief also emphasized the Agency’s post-market surveillance programs, which ensure the quality of medicines, and highlighted Nigeria’s WHO Maturity Level 3 status as a boost for investor confidence. She encouraged Bangladeshi investors to consider establishing pharmaceutical manufacturing operations in Nigeria, particularly in vaccine production, citing NAFDAC’s advanced vaccines and biologics laboratory in Lagos as a key resource for supporting pharmaceutical development.
