Business leaders and entrepreneurs across Africa have been urged to prioritise governance, structure, and long-term sustainability in building enterprises capable of enduring beyond their founders.
The call was made during a press briefing in Abuja after the conclusion of the Convergence Africa Conference sponsored by The CEOs’ Portal Ltd, where organisers emphasised the need for African businesses to transition from founder-driven operations to institutions with lasting legacies.
Speaking with journalists, Patience Olusuyi said the initiative was created to address weak business structures across the continent. She noted that although Africa is rich in innovation, talent, and entrepreneurial ambition, many businesses fail to survive across generations due to the absence of strong governance systems, succession planning, and institutional frameworks.
According to her, the conference, themed “Transgenerational Connection: Architecting Generational Capital Across Industries,” was designed to encourage founders and executives to build enterprises capable of sustainably transferring wealth, influence, knowledge, and opportunities across generations.
Olusuyi explained that the platform was aimed not only at inspiring participants but also at equipping them with practical strategies for enterprise development, mentorship, collaboration, and strategic networking.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The CEOs’ Portal Ltd, Dr. Ben Oailkloma, said the organisation remains committed to promoting sustainable business structures and institutional growth across Africa.
He added that the platform was established to help entrepreneurs strengthen governance, mentorship, strategic partnerships, and succession planning within the African business ecosystem.
Also speaking, Abioye Oke highlighted the importance of collaboration across sectors including law, finance, technology, real estate, and fashion in building enduring institutions on the continent.
The organisers stated that the long-term vision of the initiative is to nurture a generation of African entrepreneurs who will build structured enterprises, lead with integrity, and create institutions capable of delivering value long after their founders are gone.
