Delta Commends Police Chief Over Crackdown on Crime

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Delta State, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, has been commended for strengthening security operations and tackling criminal activities across parts of the state.

The commendation was given by civil society activist Elvis Ekrakpoariemu Ogbevire, who praised the senior officer for revitalising the command’s operations unit and spearheading targeted interventions in crime-prone areas, particularly in Ughelli and its environs.

Ogbevire noted that the unit has carried out coordinated raids on suspected cult groups and criminal networks. He revealed that one such operation, following a cult-related killing in Ughelli, led to the arrest of several key suspects.
He added that the sustained operations have helped restore calm in affected communities, reducing violent clashes and improving public safety.

The activist also highlighted efforts to enforce discipline within the command, stating that officers have been encouraged to carry out their duties professionally and impartially.

According to him, the unit’s rapid response to security threats has prevented further escalation, especially in areas previously affected by rival group clashes.

Clarifying roles within the police structure, Ogbevire explained that while the operations unit handles arrests, investigations and bail matters are managed by divisional police officers and area commanders.

Addressing allegations of extortion, he disclosed that Adejobi had ordered investigations into the claims, with refunds to be made where misconduct is confirmed.

Ogbevire called for balanced advocacy in addressing security challenges, urging stakeholders to hold relevant authorities accountable while acknowledging officers making genuine efforts.

He reaffirmed his support for ongoing police operations in the state, describing them as vital to protecting lives and property.
