Delta Police Arrest Two Suspected Motorcycle Snatchers, Recover Gun, Car

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers in separate operations across the state.

The command said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts under the leadership of Yemi John Oyeniyi to curb crime and criminal activities in the state.

According to the police, officers attached to the Agbor Division intercepted two suspects during a stop-and-search operation at College Junction in Agbor on March 31.

The suspects, identified as Julius Godday and Mzemeke Peter, were reportedly riding on a motorcycle when they sighted the police and attempted to flee.

Police operatives pursued and arrested the pair. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun loaded with two live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents in the area. The police also alleged that the suspects are members of the Eiye confraternity.

The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation and remain in police custody. The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In a separate operation, the police recovered a suspected stolen vehicle loaded with vandalised items in Sapele.

The command said a concerned resident alerted officers at the Sapele Division after spotting a Toyota Sienna bus conveying suspected vandalised items, including iron scraps and a gas cylinder.

A patrol team was immediately deployed to the area, but the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush on sighting the police.

The vehicle was later recovered and taken to the police station, while investigations have commenced to identify and arrest those involved.

Commissioner of Police Oyeniyi commended the officers for the successful operations and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies. He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
