The Delta State Police Command has recorded major successes in its ongoing crackdown on crime, dismantling a suspected kidnap syndicate and recovering firearms and live ammunition in separate operations across the state.
Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, operatives intensified intelligence-driven operations leading to the arrest of key suspects linked to kidnapping activities in Ughelli and surrounding communities.
Kidnap Syndicate Busted
Three suspected kidnappers — Usman Ayuba (22) of Iyede Community, Ibrahim Abubakar (22) of Akwa Ibom State, and Haruna Dahiru, alias Bodere (23), also of Iyede Community — were earlier handed over by the Area Commander, Ughelli, and interrogated by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT).
Following sustained questioning, the suspects provided information that led operatives to a bush along the Iyede axis on February 26, 2026, where a magazine loaded with 25 rounds of live ammunition was recovered. The following day, February 27, the suspects guided police to their hideout within the same area, resulting in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle.
The trio was identified by a female victim who was abducted on February 4, 2026, at Olu Avenue, Ughelli, and released three days later after a ransom of ₦2 million was paid. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Armed Suspect Arrested
In a separate operation on February 27, 2026, at about 5:00 a.m., operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team intercepted 55-year-old Shuabu Adams during a routine stop-and-search exercise along the Abraka-Oghara axis near Western Delta University.
A search of his belongings led to the discovery of a locally made cut-to-size gun concealed in a pullover bag and loaded with two live cartridges. He was immediately arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
CP Adesola commended the gallantry and professionalism of officers involved in the operations, reiterating the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Delta State does not serve as a safe haven for kidnappers, gun runners, or other criminal elements.
The Command also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information, emphasizing that community partnership remains vital in the fight against crime.
