Economic Community of West African States Holds High-Level Talks in Freetown to Boost Regional Integration

The Economic Community of West African States Commission has commenced high-level consultations in Freetown, Sierra Leone, aimed at strengthening regional economic integration across West Africa.
The meeting, part of broader regional initiatives on economic integration, is led by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Dr. Kalilou Sylla. During the visit, the delegation met with Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, and later held strategic discussions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Key issues on the agenda include agricultural transformation, enhancing trade competitiveness, mobilising the private sector in a structured manner, and improving policy coordination among member states. The discussions align with the bloc’s Vision 2050 framework, which seeks to deepen economic cooperation and sustainable development in the region.
Meanwhile, technical sessions are ongoing to advance the harmonisation of regional instruments, review agricultural policies, strengthen investment facilitation frameworks, and refine implementation strategies.
The consultations are expected to reinforce collaborative efforts among member states toward achieving a more integrated and resilient West African economy.
