The ECOWAS Court of Justice has commenced a series of high-level engagements with Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Guinea aimed at strengthening the enforcement of its judgments across member states.
The Court said effective implementation of its decisions is critical to maintaining the credibility of the regional legal system and guaranteeing access to justice for citizens and communities within the West African sub-region.
As part of efforts to improve compliance, the Court launched a structured dialogue initiative targeting member states with notable records of pending or unenforced judgments. The initiative is designed to promote direct consultations, examine challenges hindering enforcement, and develop coordinated mechanisms to ensure better execution of court rulings.
In furtherance of the programme, senior officials of the Court held meetings with judicial authorities in the Sierra Leone from February 10 to 12, 2026, and in Nigeria from February 16 to 18, 2026.
A similar engagement is scheduled to take place in Guinea from March 2 to 4, 2026, in Conakry.
The Court expressed optimism that sustained dialogue with national authorities would enhance compliance with its rulings and reinforce the rule of law within the Economic Community of West African States region.
