FCT Police Commissioner Convenes Emergency Security Meeting, Warns Against Misconduct

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on April 17, 2026, held an emergency security meeting with Area and Tactical Commanders at the Command Headquarters in Garki II, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and reinforce professionalism.

The meeting, which began at about 2:30 p.m., focused on consolidating gains in crime reduction, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring strict adherence to professional policing standards across the territory.

Addressing the officers, Sanusi commended them for their dedication, noting that crime rates in the FCT have remained relatively low in recent times. He, however, urged continued vigilance and proactive policing within their respective areas of responsibility.

The CP reiterated directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, emphasizing zero tolerance for extortion, harassment, and other forms of misconduct. He warned that officers found culpable would face disciplinary action, adding that supervisory officers would be held accountable for the actions of their subordinates.

To enforce compliance, the Commissioner directed the X-Squad to intensify monitoring of officers’ conduct, with a mandate to arrest and prosecute erring personnel.

In a structural adjustment, Sanusi announced the dissolution of all Tactical Teams within the Command, in line with the IGP’s directive.

He disclosed that the teams have been merged into a unified Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to enhance coordination and response to violent crimes.

He also appealed to residents to support security agencies by providing timely information and avoiding actions that could incite confrontation with police officers, particularly for social media content.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to report suspicious activities promptly as part of collective efforts to maintain peace in the FCT.

The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
