The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to the public over a fraudulent recruitment message circulating online, claiming to offer employment into Nigeria’s Diplomatic Service.
In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, the Ministry described the notice as fake and misleading, noting that it falsely informs recipients of alleged shortlisting for diplomatic appointments and requests payment for the processing of a so-called “credence note.”
The Ministry stressed that the message is the handiwork of fraudsters seeking to exploit unsuspecting individuals.
It clarified that Nigerian missions abroad are not conducting any recruitment exercise and that the Ministry does not recruit through emails, WhatsApp messages, or unsolicited contacts.
According to the statement, no fees are required at any stage of recruitment or diplomatic postings, adding that legitimate employment into the Foreign Service is handled through the Federal Civil Service Commission via official government channels.
The Ministry further stated that it has not authorized any individual or organisation to collect payments on its behalf, describing references to DSS clearance and attribution to its spokesperson in the fake message as deliberate attempts to mislead the public.
It urged citizens to disregard such messages and report any related approaches to security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and advised the public to seek verification through its official communication channels.
