The Federal Government has filed a further amended charge against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged cybercrime offences involving national security communications. The case is before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In the charge marked FHHC/ABJ/CR/99/2026, the Federal Republic of Nigeria is accusing El-Rufai of multiple offences linked to the alleged interception and unauthorized access to communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The prosecution alleges that El-Rufai unlawfully interfered with communications classified as Critical National Information Infrastructure, in violation of the 2024 designation order and relevant provisions of the Cybercrimes Amendment Act.
He is also accused of gaining unauthorized access to classified information, including an alleged directive ordering his arrest and detention, as well as intentionally intercepting sensitive communications without lawful authority.
In another count, the government claims the former governor aided or failed to report individuals involved in the unlawful interception of the NSA’s communications to security agencies.
The fifth count alleges that El-Rufai, alongside others still at large, used technical systems to compromise national security and public safety, thereby causing fear among Nigerians.
The prosecution says it will rely on proof of evidence already filed alongside the amended charge dated April 8, 2026.
The matter is expected to proceed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
