The Federal Government has given the contractor responsible for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Abeokuta a one-month deadline to complete the facility and hand it over for official use.
The directive follows a social media video highlighting the abandoned state of the building. In response, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, carried out an unscheduled on-the-spot inspection on Thursday, 12th February 2026.
During the visit, Dr. Salako expressed concern over the prolonged neglect of the facility and its impact on health insurance service delivery in Ogun State. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalising critical health infrastructure as part of ongoing reforms in the sector.
It was revealed that the contractor has not formally handed over the building to NHIA management. Dr. Salako instructed that all necessary works be completed within one month to allow NHIA staff to fully occupy the office. He stressed that public health assets should not remain idle, especially amid efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare.
The Minister assured stakeholders that measures would be taken to ensure the facility is put to productive use within the stipulated timeframe for the benefit of Ogun State residents.
The statement was issued by Ado Bako, Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, representing the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
