FG Tasks New RRBN Registrar on Digitalisation, Fight Against Quackery

The Federal Government has directed the newly appointed Registrar of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, Dr. Idris Garba, to prioritise the digitalisation of the radiography profession and intensify efforts to eliminate quackery in the field.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, gave the charge while presenting Garba’s letter of appointment in Abuja.
Salako stressed that digitalising the profession is essential to strengthening healthcare delivery, noting that it would enable authorities to easily identify qualified radiographers practicing both within and outside the country, as well as detect unlicensed practitioners.
He also urged the new registrar to uphold ethical standards and ensure strict enforcement of professional regulations. According to the minister, tackling quackery must remain a key priority, with the board deploying its resources to eliminate unqualified individuals from radiographic practice nationwide.
Salako commended the selection panel for conducting a rigorous and transparent recruitment process that led to Garba’s emergence and expressed confidence that the new registrar would contribute significantly to the growth of the profession and the health sector.
He further advised Garba to sustain the achievements of his predecessor and maintain a harmonious relationship between professionals and their associations, warning that the government would not tolerate actions that could hinder the progress of the board.
Responding, Garba, a scholar from Bayero University Kano, pledged to strengthen the board through digital transformation and an open-door leadership approach. He said his administration would focus on building a comprehensive database of radiographers and ensuring that all centres operating radiographic equipment have qualified personnel.
Garba also identified quackery as a major challenge in the profession and vowed to work within the law to ensure that only licensed and competent practitioners operate in the country.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, represented by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Adeola Adegoke, commended the minister for ensuring a transparent appointment process and for his commitment to strengthening the health sector.
