FRSC Launches Nationwide Discipline Reform

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has launched a sweeping internal reform aimed at strengthening discipline, professionalism and accountability within the agency nationwide.
The initiative, described by insiders as one of the most extensive internal overhauls in recent years, involves the immediate deployment of the Corps Management Team to commands across the country for a structured retreat and operational reorientation.
At the heart of the directive is a clear message from the Corps headquarters that professionalism remains non-negotiable. The reform plan seeks to reassess operational standards, reinforce supervisory responsibility and address incidents of incivility and unprofessional conduct toward members of the public.
Sources within the Corps said the Corps Marshal has warned that any action capable of undermining public trust or damaging the agency’s statutory mandate would attract prompt disciplinary measures.
As part of the reform agenda, Commanding Officers in all formations have been directed to implement renewed performance benchmarks, enforce strict adherence to the Corps’ code of conduct and standardise enforcement procedures to address operational inconsistencies.
Beyond internal restructuring, the Management Team is also expected to engage directly with key stakeholders and members of the public during the nationwide tour to obtain feedback on service delivery, enforcement methods and officer conduct on the roads.
Observers note that the move signals a shift toward a more citizen-focused road safety administration, with emphasis on aligning internal discipline with respectful public engagement.
The Corps Marshal has reiterated that personnel found guilty of misconduct, abuse of authority or any action capable of bringing the Corps into disrepute will face immediate sanctions in accordance with established regulations.
The reform drive is expected to promote a transition from routine enforcement to a more humane, professional and service-oriented approach to road safety management.
For an agency that interacts daily with motorists across the country, officials acknowledge that public perception remains critical. By taking the reform directly to field commands, the Corps leadership aims to strengthen internal discipline while rebuilding and sustaining public confidence in the FRSC as a responsive and people-oriented institution.
If fully implemented, the initiative could reshape not only how the Corps enforces traffic regulations, but also how it is perceived by road users nationwide.
