The Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa, GIABA, in collaboration with the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, is set to hold its 45th Technical Commission and Plenary Meeting, alongside the 31st GIABA Ministerial Committee Meeting, from May 18 to 23, 2026, in Abidjan.
According to a statement issued by the GIABA Secretariat in Dakar, Senegal, the plenary session will be officially declared open on Thursday, May 21, by Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Finance and Budget, Adama Coulibaly.
The meeting is expected to bring together experts, representatives of member states, development partners and observer organizations to deliberate on issues relating to anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism within the West African region.
A major focus of the gathering will be the consideration of follow-up reports of some member states under the Second Round of Mutual Evaluation, as well as discussions on reports from the Risks, Trends and Methods Group, the Forum of Financial Intelligence Units and the Technical Assistance Group.
GIABA says the event will provide member states with an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss challenges in implementing effective anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism measures across the region.
The organization noted that the plenary meeting remains part of its ongoing efforts to promote regional integration and strengthen economic security within the ECOWAS sub-region.
The 31st GIABA Ministerial Committee Meeting, scheduled for May 23, will also consider and adopt several reports, including the Director General’s Summary Activity Report and the report of the 44th Technical Commission and Plenary Meetings.
