The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Thursday hosted members of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to enhance security in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry.
Leading the delegation was the Committee Chairman, Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, alongside other committee members. They were received by the Police Management Team and senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
The visit focused on strengthening collaboration to protect critical infrastructure in the downstream sector, considered vital to Nigeria’s economic stability.
Speaking during the meeting, Ugochinyere commended the Inspector-General for his proactive leadership and the Police Force’s efforts in safeguarding national energy assets. He pledged to intensify surveillance operations, improve intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and deepen partnerships with relevant agencies to guarantee steady energy supply and sustain investor confidence.
Egbetokun also appealed to the committee to strengthen relevant legal frameworks and ensure adequate funding for personnel training, procurement of surveillance equipment, and improved welfare for officers deployed to protect downstream facilities.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard petroleum resources, restore stability in affected communities, and ensure uninterrupted access to energy nationwide.
