The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume nationwide on May 11, 2026.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission said the exercise will run until July 10, 2026, providing eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
INEC explained that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to enable a clean-up of the voter register after its publication for claims and objections, a move aimed at improving the accuracy and credibility of the database.
According to the Commission, the final phase will accommodate citizens who have recently attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during previous phases. It urged all eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the exercise.
The Commission added that already registered voters can also use the period to transfer their registration, update personal information, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
To facilitate participation, INEC encouraged prospective registrants to use its online portal or visit its offices across states and local government areas nationwide.
INEC further disclosed that the updated voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026, allowing Nigerians to file claims and objections to ensure the integrity of the register.
The Commission assured the public of adequate preparations for a smooth and transparent exercise, calling on citizens to actively participate in strengthening the country’s democratic process.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on May 5, 2026.
With preparations for the 2026 electoral cycle underway, INEC noted that the CVR exercise remains a vital step toward ensuring inclusivity and broad-based participation in Nigeria’s democracy.
