The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, even as delays persist in the amendment of the Electoral Act by the National Assembly.
INEC said it remains fully prepared for the polls, stressing that planning has continued despite the uncertainty surrounding the passage of the revised law.
The commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with representatives of civil society organisations.
Amupitan said INEC had already submitted its recommendations on the proposed amendments to the National Assembly, but noted that the timing of the passage of the new Electoral Act could have implications for aspects of the election schedule.
He explained that until the amendment process is concluded, the commission would continue to operate under the existing Electoral Act.
According to him, INEC is proceeding with its preparations within the current legal framework, with the flexibility to adjust its plans where necessary once a new law is enacted.
