The Islamic Republic of Iran in Nigeria, in collaboration with the A-Huda Foundation for Enlightenment, Cultural and Islamic Propagation, has called for renewed global support for the Palestinian cause during its annual International Quds Day lecture.
Delivering the closing remarks at the event, Mohammad Zubair expressed condolences over the reported martyrdom of the leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Ali Khamenei, describing him as a guiding figure for Muslims and supporters of justice worldwide. He prayed for strength and patience for the Iranian nation and the wider Muslim community.
Zubair urged participants to carry the message of Quds Day beyond the lecture hall, noting that the annual event represents a global stand against oppression. He emphasized that the observance was not merely symbolic but a reminder of the responsibility of people around the world to support justice and the rights of the Palestinian people.
According to him, Muslims regard the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem as a sacred site and the first direction of prayer in Islam. He lamented that the site and surrounding territories remain under what he described as the control of the Zionist regime, which he accused of subjecting Palestinians to hardship and displacement.
He recalled that the late Iranian revolutionary leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, instituted International Quds Day, observed on the last Friday of Ramadan, to mobilize global support for Palestinians and raise awareness about their plight.
Zubair also reiterated Iran’s longstanding position that the Palestinian issue should be resolved based on the will of the Palestinian people. He stressed that international silence over the situation in Palestinian territories and other regional conflicts could encourage further instability.
The speaker further praised the resilience of Palestinians and called for unity among Muslims and other supporters of justice worldwide. He noted that solidarity and collective action were essential to achieving lasting peace and restoring the rights of Palestinians.
While honoring individuals he described as martyrs of the struggle for Palestine, including Qasem Soleimani and Ismail Haniyeh, Zubair maintained that the struggle for justice would continue until Palestinians achieve freedom and self-determination.
He concluded by urging the international community to uphold universal values of justice, freedom, and solidarity, expressing hope that a lasting and just peace would eventually be achieved in Palestine.
International Quds Day is marked annually in several countries as a platform to advocate support for Palestinians and draw attention to developments in the Middle East.
