The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, on Friday celebrated the 2026 International Women’s Day with a surprise appreciation event dedicated to female officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The event, held at the Customs House in Maitama, attracted officers across various ranks alongside members of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association.
Participants were presented with roses as a gesture of recognition for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to national service.
Speaking at the gathering, Adeniyi explained that the initiative was designed to move away from routine ceremonies and instead highlight the often underappreciated roles of women within the Service.
He noted that despite the paramilitary structure of the organisation, it was important to pause and celebrate the impact of female personnel.
He described women as indispensable to the operations of the Service, commending their professionalism and commitment across formations nationwide.
According to him, the event also reinforces a culture that rewards excellence and hard work regardless of gender.
In her remarks, the National President of the association, Kikelomo Adeniyi, said the occasion provided a meaningful platform to recognise women’s contributions within the Customs community.
She lauded the Comptroller-General for fostering inclusivity and creating opportunities for women to excel, adding that female officers continue to play critical roles in the Service’s development. She also highlighted the association’s efforts in promoting welfare and empowerment programmes, stressing that investing in women remains key to strengthening institutions and society at large.
