Nigerian youths have been urged to take advantage of skills acquisition and empowerment initiatives as a way to curb drug abuse and other social vices.
Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman and CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), delivered the message on Thursday as Special Guest of Honour at the launch of a youth empowerment programme by Grassroots Bridge Builders in Abuja.
Marwa praised the initiative, noting its alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda on youth development, skills acquisition, job creation, and social inclusion. He described such programmes as vital for capacity building, character development, and preventing drug abuse, stressing that government alone cannot address societal challenges.
He called on NGOs, civil society, faith-based organizations, and the private sector to replicate the initiative and partner with NDLEA to empower young Nigerians. “You are not a problem to be managed; you are a solution to be empowered,” he told participants.
Marwa also pledged support for all non-partisan programmes that foster youth development and drug-free communities, emphasizing that empowering young people is key to Nigeria’s future.
