The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three persons living with disabilities for alleged drug trafficking in separate operations across Anambra and Kwara states, while also uncovering a major drug stash in Lagos valued at over N5.8 billion.
According to the agency, a 60-year-old suspect, Romanus Nwabara, was arrested on May 6 at Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, Anambra State, following intelligence reports linking him to drug distribution activities. NDLEA operatives reportedly recovered 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets from him.
In another operation in Ogbunike, Anambra State, officers arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth with various illicit substances, including Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol-5, and skunk.
Similarly, NDLEA personnel on patrol along Bode Saadu in Kwara State intercepted a commercial vehicle on May 8 and discovered 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a school bag belonging to a passenger identified as Usman Salisu, also described as a person with disability.
In Lagos, operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit raided a mansion in Lekki Phase 1 allegedly used as a drug warehouse. During the operation, officers recovered 4,000 parcels of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis weighing 2,326 kilograms and estimated at over N5.815 billion in street value.
Two Mercedes-Benz buses and packaging materials used for retail distribution were also seized from the property located on African Lane, Lekki.
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives arrested Emmanuel Osita Okeke in Nyanya-Karu, Nasarawa State, with 129 kilograms of skunk. In Kogi State, officers intercepted a commuter bus along the Okene-Lokoja highway and recovered 766 kilograms of skunk concealed in 76 jumbo bags.
Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa — were taken into custody.
The agency also uncovered a makeshift “skuchies” production factory in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos, where two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were allegedly caught preparing cannabis-based mixtures.
Officers recovered 270 litres of the substance and quantities of Tramadol from the site.
Beyond enforcement operations, the NDLEA said its commands nationwide sustained anti-drug awareness campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative in schools, communities, workplaces, and religious centres across several states.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the momentum in both drug supply reduction and public sensitisation efforts.
The statement was signed by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, on May 10, 2026.
