The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has concluded a two-day strategic management workshop designed to advance trade facilitation reforms and enhance the ease of doing business nationwide.
Held from 22 to 23 January 2026 in partnership with Reverso Business Services Limited, the high-level training underscored the Service’s commitment to digital modernisation and the reduction of bureaucratic obstacles along Nigeria’s trade corridors.
The workshop forms part of the broader reform agenda being driven by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, aligning Customs operations with international best practices and positioning the Service as a catalyst for economic growth.
Discussions on the final day centred on global trade trends, digital transformation and the evolving responsibilities of modern Customs administrations. Senior officers engaged in extensive deliberations on adaptive strategies, operational efficiency and collaboration with key stakeholders, reflecting the Service’s determination to remain agile in a rapidly changing trade landscape.
Addressing participants, Adeniyi highlighted the dynamic nature of international trade and reaffirmed that the NCS is proactively implementing reforms to respond to both current and future challenges.
He noted that while the operating environment will continue to evolve, expectations remain constant for Customs to contribute to economic prosperity, public health and national security, stressing that effective trade facilitation lies at the intersection of these priorities.
The CGC further urged officers to maintain high professional standards, describing the ongoing transformation of the Service as a deliberate effort to build a reference Customs administration distinguished by accountability, responsiveness and performance.
Also speaking at the event, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Reverso Business Services Limited, Ayokunnu Ojeniyi, praised the NCS for its openness to innovation and continuous improvement. He emphasised the need for proactive change management and sustained capacity building to support efficient trade facilitation.
He challenged participants to apply insights from the workshop to drive tangible improvements within their respective commands.
The training aligns with the Nigeria Customs Service’s wider modernisation programme, which encompasses process automation, stronger stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships aimed at improving service delivery and boosting trade efficiency.
