The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United Mexican States.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Ministry noted that relations between both countries, established on April 14, 1976, have grown into a stable and mutually beneficial partnership anchored on mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference, and a shared commitment to global peace and development.
It stated that Nigeria and Mexico have maintained strong engagement at both bilateral and multilateral levels, particularly within the United Nations system, where they have often aligned on key international issues.
According to the Ministry, cooperation between the two nations has expanded across critical sectors, including trade and investment, energy, agriculture, education, culture, and technical exchange.
It added that recent efforts have focused on strengthening economic diplomacy through private sector participation, trade diversification, and exploration of opportunities in areas such as renewable energy and industrial development.
The Federal Government expressed satisfaction with the steady growth in relations, highlighting the importance of sustained diplomatic dialogue, institutional collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges in deepening the partnership.
As both countries celebrate the milestone, the Ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to further strengthening ties through high-level engagements and strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The Ministry also congratulated the governments and citizens of both nations, expressing optimism that the relationship will continue to deliver greater benefits in the years ahead.
