The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, is set to host a high-level dialogue on pandemic preparedness and response in Abuja on Monday, 30 March 2026.
Titled “Lessons on Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Insights from China and Nigeria,” the event will bring together senior government officials, policymakers, scientists, and representatives from global health institutions from both Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
The dialogue aims to strengthen strategies for tackling future health emergencies, building on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. Key topics will include disease surveillance and early warning systems, emergency response coordination, health system resilience, community engagement, risk communication, and international collaboration on pandemic preparedness.
Participants will also explore avenues for deeper Nigeria–China cooperation in public health research, laboratory capacity, pathogen surveillance, technology transfer, and coordinated responses to cross-border health threats.
The discussions are expected to generate policy recommendations, strengthen bilateral collaboration, and provide strategic guidance for national and global health security priorities. The programme will feature opening remarks from senior officials, a keynote address by a leading global health expert, panel discussions with Nigerian and international specialists, and a post-event press briefing.
