Nollywood Actress Halima Abubakar Appeals for Financial Support Amid Health, Housing Crisis

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has renewed her appeal for financial assistance to fund surgery for a brain tumour, disclosing that she is currently homeless and facing severe financial hardship.
Speaking during a recent live session, the actress said she has been struggling since her diagnosis and was recently evicted from her residence, leaving her without accommodation. She described her situation as desperate, noting that she had exhausted her savings to cater for medical expenses within her family.
Abubakar revealed that she spent about ₦9 million last year on her mother’s hernia surgery, a decision she said significantly depleted her resources. She explained that funds earlier contributed by well-wishers for her own medical treatment were withdrawn in an attempt to pay her rent, but were allegedly rejected by her landlady, resulting in her eviction.
The actress made a public appeal to several prominent individuals, including former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, social media activist VeryDarkMan, and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, calling on them and Nigerians at large for support.
She also addressed allegations that she was exaggerating her condition to gain sympathy, firmly denying the claims. According to her, it would be “embarrassing and heartbreaking” to fabricate an illness, stressing that she turned to the public only after exhausting all other options.
Abubakar disclosed that she requires an estimated ₦25 million to cover the cost of surgery, post-operative care, accommodation, feeding, and other living expenses. She added that she relocated to Abuja to be closer to the Turkish Hospital where she has been receiving treatment and has been on medication for over a year. She further revealed that she may require the removal of her spleen as part of her treatment.
This is not the first time the actress has sought public assistance. In February 2025, she appealed to the Kogi State government for help, though she did not then disclose details of her illness. In 2022, Abubakar announced her retirement from acting, citing health challenges.
Her latest appeal has once again drawn public attention to her prolonged health battle and financial struggles.
