The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the commencement of activities for the 2026 National Police Day, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
The announcement followed a press briefing held on March 23, 2026, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, spoke on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to the NPF, the week-long celebration will begin on March 30 and end with a grand finale on April 7, 2026.
The Force said the theme underscores its resolve to deepen collaboration with citizens, promote transparency, and build lasting trust necessary for effective policing.
An organising committee has been inaugurated to coordinate the event, chaired by AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, while the Force PRO serves as secretary. The committee includes senior officers drawn from key units such as the FCID, PMF, EOD-CBRN, and Medical Services.
Activities lined up for the celebration include nationwide environmental sanitation and free medical outreach on March 30, followed by a national walkathon across state capitals on March 31 to foster unity and strengthen police-community relations.
Public awareness campaigns on electoral violence and road safety will take place on April 1, while April 2 will be dedicated to honouring fallen officers, with support extended to their families.
The event will climax on April 7 with a ceremonial parade at Eagle Square, Abuja, featuring tactical displays by specialised police units to showcase operational preparedness.
The NPF called on community leaders, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to participate in the activities, reaffirming its commitment to a people-oriented policing approach built on trust and mutual respect.
