Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, citing the deteriorating state of the nation and the urgent need for reform.
Obi disclosed that he joined the NDC alongside Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stressing that the move was driven by a commitment to building a more just, accountable, and people-oriented Nigeria.
He explained that his decision followed careful reflection and was not motivated by personal ambition, but by concern over rising poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship facing Nigerians.
Obi also attributed his exit from the ADC to persistent internal crises and legal challenges, which he said were deliberately orchestrated to hinder effective political participation.
While appreciating the leadership of the party, including David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, Obi called on the Federal Government to avoid actions that could weaken opposition parties.
He emphasized that democracy must be strengthened through credible institutions and political freedom, warning that undermining opposition voices could harm national development.
Reaffirming his commitment to national unity and good governance, Obi urged Nigerians, particularly youths and women, to remain hopeful and continue striving for a better future.
