diplomatic missions, alongside representatives of the European Union and Economic Community of West African States, will participate in the 2026 Diplomatic, Security, Trade and Investment International Conference in Abuja.
The conference, scheduled for May 20, 2026, will take place at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is expected to bring together security chiefs, intelligence experts, policymakers, trade agencies and civil society groups.
Speaking in Abuja, DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the summit would examine the growing threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), which he described as a tool increasingly used to undermine international relations, fuel insecurity and disrupt global trade.
The conference will be held under the theme, “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”
Organisers said the gathering comes at a critical period as tensions in the Gulf and renewed conflict in the Middle East continue to drive up global energy prices and threaten trade projections for 2026.
According to DICAN, the summit will explore how diplomacy, intelligence and the media can work together to counter disinformation, prevent the spread of state-sponsored false narratives and reduce tensions capable of destabilising international markets.
Participants are also expected to discuss measures to restore investor confidence by promoting transparency and protecting trade routes and investments from the effects of manipulated information.
The conference will further deliberate on the role of diplomatic intelligence in separating propaganda from verified facts in order to support peaceful dialogue and negotiations in conflict zones.
Organisers said the event is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a strategic centre for discussions on global security, trade and investment.
