PCRC National Chairman Commends Transparent Police Recruitment Exercise in FCT

The National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, has applauded the ongoing Nigeria Police recruitment exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing it as transparent, inclusive, and well coordinated.

Olaniyan made the commendation on Monday during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the recruitment screening centre in Abuja, where he noted that the PCRC is actively involved in monitoring the exercise across the country in partnership with the Police Service Commission and other relevant stakeholders.

He explained that this is the first time the Police Service Commission is formally engaging the PCRC in recruitment activities, a development he said represents a major step toward improving accountability, fairness, and public confidence in the process.

According to him, the presence of PCRC officials from the zonal and FCT levels, alongside senior police officers and civil society representatives, is aimed at ensuring due process and safeguarding the interests of indigenous applicants.

He stressed that the collaborative monitoring structure is designed to prevent manipulation and ensure that recruitment slots allocated to FCT indigenes are not unfairly accessed by applicants from other states.

Addressing candidates at the centre, Olaniyan expressed optimism about their prospects, describing them as potentially “the best set of police constables in Nigeria’s history,” while urging them to remain disciplined and focused throughout the screening stages.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police for prioritising welfare and capacity development for junior officers, and praised retired Deputy Inspector-General Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, for driving the large-scale recruitment of 50,000 constables in a single exercise, which he described as unprecedented.
Olaniyan concluded that the ongoing recruitment process is expected to produce competent officers who will strengthen internal security and enhance policing across the country.
