Police Arrest Four More Suspects Over Killing of Three Cameroonians in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the murder of three Cameroonian nationals, as efforts continue to track down a fleeing gang leader and other members of the criminal network.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects—all male—include an alleged shrine chief priest, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, also known as “Ugoebenajah,” 27. Others arrested are Nwabunne Bright, 27; Chinecherem Chiama, 21; and Michael Ekwunife, 38.
Police operatives recovered two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted charms, expanded ammunition, 10 live cartridges, and five rounds of 9mm ammunition from the suspects at Nando community in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The arrests followed confessions by two earlier suspects already in custody. Acting on the information, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu raided a shrine identified as the gang’s hideout on February 13, 2026.
According to the command, about 30 men were found at the location, but they allegedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to a gun battle. The police said their personnel responded professionally and overpowered the suspects.
During the exchange, the prime suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, a native of Oroma Etiti Anam, escaped alongside other gang members, some of whom were believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.
One of the arrested suspects also suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The police said the suspects are undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to provide useful information to support ongoing investigations. It added that further updates would be communicated as the probe progresses.
