The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on Tuesday conducted an operational tour of Gidandogo, Garam and Kungabako border villages in Bwari Area Council to strengthen security along the boundaries of the FCT, Niger and Kaduna states.
During the exercise, the police chief led a targeted operation that resulted in the arrest of three suspected kidnappers identified as Nasiru Abdullahi, Samaila Dahiru and Bello Usman.
Police investigations showed that Abdullahi and Dahiru, both from Kweri village in Kaduna State, were allegedly responsible for the abduction of Mallam Bako from his farmland in Gushawai village on April 8.
The victim was reportedly taken to Kweri forest where the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N50 million before he was rescued by operatives of the FCT Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The command further disclosed that the suspects were linked to the earlier abduction of 20 persons in Byazhin community.
Also arrested was Bello Usman, popularly known as Dagejo, who police described as a notorious informant and logistics supplier for bandits operating between Kaduna State and the FCT. He had reportedly been on the command’s watchlist for two years.
Police said an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 12 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from Usman.
Sanusi assured residents of the FCT of the command’s commitment to tackling insecurity and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
