Police Chief Commends Abuja Journalists, Seeks Stronger Media Partnership

The newly appointed Olatunji Ridwan Disu has commended journalists in the Federal Capital Territory for their role in informing the public and contributing to national development.
Speaking during the congress of the Nigerian Union of Journalists FCT Council in Abuja on Saturday, the police chief described his relationship with the media as one built on mutual respect and professionalism.
Disu stressed that journalists should be treated as professionals and not as beggars, noting that the media plays a vital role in society. He emphasised that maintaining respect and professionalism between security agencies and journalists would help strengthen public confidence.
The Inspector-General also called for closer collaboration between the police and the media, stating that such partnership would enhance public trust and ensure accurate dissemination of information on security issues.
He further urged both police officers and journalists to always conduct themselves responsibly, noting that professionalism and good conduct leave lasting impressions in society.
In her response, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike, congratulated Disu on his appointment and described him as a long-standing friend of the press. She expressed confidence in his leadership and assured him of the council’s readiness to work with the police in reporting security matters objectively.
Ike also disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police would be invited as a special guest to the council’s 2026 Press Week celebration.
