Police Council Confirms Olatunji Disu as New Inspector-General

The National Police Council on Monday officially confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP), following an endorsement by President Bola Tinubu at a meeting held in Abuja.
The decision was announced during the council session at the State House, which lasted about 40 minutes. Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development, stating that the council unanimously approved Disu’s appointment. His nomination will now be forwarded to the Senate for screening and final confirmation.
The meeting, which began around 2:15 p.m., was conducted in accordance with the Police Act 2020. Disu, 59, had been serving in an acting capacity since last Wednesday after the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing family reasons.
The session was attended by top government officials, including the Vice President, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, state governors, and other ministers. The Police Council comprises the President, all governors, the Police Service Commission chairman, and the IGP.
Attention now turns to the reforms Disu may introduce to enhance the performance and credibility of the Nigeria Police Force.
