The Nigeria Police Force says it has rescued all passengers abducted during the recent Otukpo kidnapping incident involving a Benue Links bus on April 15, 2026.
According to the police, operatives of the Benue State Command carried out coordinated clearance operations in the Amla Forest corridor and surrounding areas following credible intelligence. The operation led to the safe rescue of the remaining 13 victims, including eight students who were on their way to Otukpo to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The police confirmed that all 18 passengers involved in the incident have now been accounted for. The victims have received medical attention, are reported to be in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families after necessary debriefing.
During the operation, seven suspects were arrested, with three already identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to track down other accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended officers of the Benue State Command for their professionalism and bravery. He also directed intensified security operations in the Otukpo area to prevent further incidents.
The police chief reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country and urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
