PSC Begins Training to Ensure Transparent Recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commenced a capacity-building workshop for its staff ahead of the recruitment of 50,000 new constables into the Nigeria Police Force.
The training, which opened on Tuesday, is aimed at equipping personnel with the necessary technical and procedural knowledge to guarantee a smooth, transparent and credible recruitment process in line with federal directives.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), a Commissioner at the PSC, declared the workshop open on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd). He conveyed the Chairman’s goodwill message to facilitators and participants, noting that the Chairman would join the session later due to another official engagement.
Justice Galumje said the exercise aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening internal security across the country. He described the recruitment initiative as a response to the President’s concern about rising security challenges, stressing the need for diligence and professionalism in implementing the directive.
He urged participants to engage actively in the sessions to ensure the outcomes of the workshop enhance the integrity and effectiveness of the recruitment exercise.
In a keynote address, the Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), described the planned recruitment of 50,000 officers as a timely intervention to address the nation’s security needs. He commended the Commission’s leadership for prioritising transparency, professionalism, and accountability in the process.
DIG Lakanu noted that the quality of recruits would significantly determine the future performance of the Police Force. He added that the training would help clarify grey areas, reinforce compliance with guidelines, and ensure uniform standards across all stages of the exercise.
He reminded participants that they represent the Commission and must uphold integrity, as their conduct will shape public confidence in the recruitment process.
The interactive workshop will focus on recruitment procedures, ethical standards, and legal compliance to ensure the exercise is fair, inclusive, and credible.
The statement was issued by Torty Njoku Kalu
