The Police Service Commission (PSC) has elevated seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Commission, the promotions were based on merit, seniority, service records, and the candidates’ performance in both written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
The officers promoted to the rank of DIG are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada. Before their elevation, they served in various strategic positions across police formations nationwide.
The development follows the recent promotion of Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of DIG, bringing him into the Force Management Team. The new appointments were necessitated by the retirement of eight senior officers who previously held the positions.
Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the PSC, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, a retired DIG, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He charged the officers to uphold professionalism, prioritize national security, and maintain a productive working relationship with the Commission to further strengthen the Nigeria Police Force.
Members of the PSC Board who participated in the promotion exercise as examiners included Paul Adamu Galumje, retired Justice of the Supreme Court; Taiwo Lakanu, retired DIG and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters; and Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
The statement was issued on Friday by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC Headquarters in Abuja.
