The Senate has urged the President to remove the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Husaini Magaji, over his repeated failure to appear before lawmakers.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance, where members of the President’s economic team were present.
Tensions flared at the start of the meeting as agency heads were introduced, with lawmakers expressing dissatisfaction over the absence of the CAC Registrar-General. The committee had invited him to provide explanations on the commission’s operations.
Moving the motion, Senator Kalu accused the CAC boss of persistently refusing to honour invitations from the committee, alleging that he often cited engagements at the Presidential Villa as an excuse.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, also faulted the agency over unresolved revenue reconciliation issues, noting that the Registrar-General had repeatedly failed to appear to address the concerns.
Supporting the motion, Senator Adams Oshiomhole suggested that the Senate should consider withholding approval of the CAC’s 2026 budget as part of further action.
The Senate subsequently adopted the motion calling on the President to remove the CAC Registrar-General.
