Three Suspects in Court Over Killing of Nigerian E-Hailing Driver in South Africa

Three suspects have appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in South Africa over the killing of 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlat.
Satlat was reportedly attacked after responding to a ride request in Pretoria West on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. His hijacked vehicle and lifeless body were later discovered in Atteridgeville.
The incident, which was captured on camera and widely circulated on social media, sparked outrage across the country. The suspects—Dikeledi Tears Phela, Gositsiane Machidi, and McClaren Mushwana—abandoned their bail applications and opted to remain in custody.
They are facing charges of premeditated murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the attack.
Outside the courtroom, e-hailing drivers and supporters staged a protest, urging authorities to strengthen safety measures for drivers using digital ride-hailing platforms. Demonstrators repeatedly chanted “Justice for Isaac” as proceedings commenced.
Satlat had reportedly borrowed the vehicle to earn extra income. He was undergoing an automotive mechanical engineering internship in Centurion and was expected to complete the programme in early March.
His birthday was scheduled for March 12.
