President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing pressing family reasons.
In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for Egbetokun’s decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation, commending his professionalism and commitment to strengthening the country’s internal security framework.
Egbetokun, appointed in June 2023 for a four-year term slated to end in June 2027 under the amended Police Act, has officially concluded his tenure following the President’s acceptance of his resignation.

According to the statement, the President will soon convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive IGP, after which his name will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, in accordance with the Police Act 2020.
