President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and international missions, following their confirmation by the Senate in December last year.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, the appointments include 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats who will represent Nigeria across different parts of the world as ambassadors and high commissioners.
Among the non-career appointees, Senator Grace Bent was posted to Togo, while Senator Ita Enang will serve in South Africa. Mahmud Yakubu was assigned to Qatar, Reno Omokri to Mexico, and Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd) to China. Others include Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, and Prof. Isaak Adewole to Canada. Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
In the list of career diplomats, Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka was posted to Côte d’Ivoire, Besto Maimuna Ibrahim to Niger Republic, and Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, among others.
The Presidency also disclosed that the United Kingdom has granted agrément for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved the posting of Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally notified other host countries of the nominations and requested agrément in line with diplomatic procedures.
President Tinubu further directed the Ministry to immediately commence induction programmes for the ambassadors and high commissioners ahead of their deployment.
