Iran has appointed seasoned military figure Ahmad Vahidi as the new Commander‑in‑Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) following the death of the force’s top leadership in a large‑scale joint military operation, officials announced Sunday. Vahidi, who had been serving as interim chief for the past six months, will now formally lead the elite force.
A long‑time figure in Tehran’s defense establishment, Vahidi has previously held key positions including Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior. His elevation comes in the wake of the death of former IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour, who was reportedly killed in Saturday’s strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
