INEC: Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, Delta Bye-Elections Provide Lessons for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says the recent bye-elections in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta States have provided valuable operational lessons ahead of the 2027 General Election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, stated this on Saturday while monitoring the polls from the Commission’s National Situation Room at its headquarters in Abuja.
The elections were held in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State, Sakwa and Disina State Constituencies of Bauchi State, and Udu State Constituency of Delta State.
Amupitan said every election, regardless of its scale, should be treated as an important test of the Commission’s preparedness for nationwide polls.
He said the exercises enabled INEC to assess its logistics, technology and administrative readiness, while identifying areas requiring improvement ahead of 2027.
The INEC Chairman, who was joined by National Commissioners and senior officials, said operational challenges encountered before the polls were identified and addressed promptly.
He also expressed confidence in the Commission’s monitoring and crisis-resolution mechanisms, assuring Nigerians that INEC would continue to refine its processes to improve efficiency and public confidence in future elections.
