Bwari PDP Candidate gives reasons for Stepping Down in the FCT Council Elections

Hon. Julius Adamu, the immediate past Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm, has clarified why he withdrew from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship race and declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in his ward in the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council polls.
Adamu, who addressed journalists after casting his ballot, said his decision was reached after extensive consultations with party stakeholders. He explained that the move was aimed at fostering harmony and accelerating development at the grassroots level.
He noted that although he had been in the race on the PDP platform, guidance from party leaders prompted him to step aside for the APC flag bearer in his ward.
Describing the APC candidate, Hon. Joshua, as competent and experienced, Adamu recalled that Joshua had previously served as a councillor and succeeded him in 2019 when he exited office as Speaker.
The former Speaker rejected claims that he stepped down due to dwindling support, insisting he remained a formidable contender. He maintained that his withdrawal was a strategic choice made in the broader interest of peace and collective progress.
Adamu stressed that political ambition should not supersede unity, adding that development can only flourish in an atmosphere of cooperation and stability. He also appealed to residents and supporters to remain peaceful and participate responsibly in the electoral process.
The FCT Area Council elections are currently underway across the six councils of the territory, under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
