The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested a 56-year-old man and recovered 21 bags of suspected Indian hemp during an operation targeting illicit drug trafficking in the state.
The operation was carried out on August 8, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected criminals at a hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area.
The police identified the suspect as Lucky Oyiboka.
According to the Command, a search of the premises following Oyiboka’s arrest led to the recovery of 21 bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
The Command said investigations had been intensified to establish the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other individuals linked to the operation.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs.
The police also urged residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies, assuring informants of confidentiality.
