The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), South East Zone, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has engaged key stakeholders in Abia State as part of efforts to strengthen community partnership and improve security collaboration across the region.
The statement which was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka Which stated that the engagement, held on Monday, June 22, 2026, followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to deepen cooperation between the Police and communities in tackling security challenges.
The meeting brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, security stakeholders, and representatives of different sectors to discuss ways of promoting collective efforts in maintaining peace and security in the state.
Speaking at the event, DIG Onwuemelie identified youth violence in Aba, armed robbery, domestic violence, and organised youth gang activities as some of the major security concerns confronting the state.
He stressed the importance of early warning mechanisms and greater community involvement in addressing these challenges, urging residents to support security agencies through timely information sharing, peaceful dispute resolution, youth mentorship, and lawful collaboration with vigilante groups.
The DIG noted that security remains a collective responsibility, reaffirming the Police commitment to improved intelligence gathering, faster response to threats, professionalism, and sustained engagement with communities.
He added that stronger partnerships, mutual trust, and continuous collaboration between security agencies and the public would contribute to achieving lasting peace and stability in Abia State.
