The ECOWAS Court of Justice has directed the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately take steps toward decongesting correctional centres across the country and halt the prolonged detention of inmates awaiting trial.
The regional court further ordered Nigeria to file a comprehensive compliance report within six months, detailing measures taken as well as updated figures of inmates either released or prosecuted.
