The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed a technical election observation mission to Guinea to monitor the country’s legislative and local government elections scheduled for May 31, 2026.
Guinean voters are expected to elect 147 members of parliament and 342 mayors during the polls.
According to ECOWAS, the mission will be in Guinea from May 24 to June 4, 2026, to observe the electoral process and support efforts aimed at ensuring credible and transparent elections.
The mission comprises 40 experts drawn from electoral management bodies and election observation institutions across ECOWAS member states. The team includes election specialists and observers with experience in monitoring democratic processes within the region.
To facilitate the effective implementation of its activities, the mission is being supported by 10 staff members from the ECOWAS Commission. The observers are expected to be deployed across different regions of Guinea to assess the conduct of the elections and provide independent evaluations of the process.
The deployment forms part of ECOWAS’ commitment to promoting democracy, good governance, and peaceful elections across West Africa.
