The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has donated pedagogical materials to the National Institute for the Education and Training of Blind Youth (INEFJA) in Thiès, Senegal, as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary.
The intervention, carried out on February 13, 2026, was funded by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) and aimed at supporting 160 resident students who face material and nutritional challenges.
ECOWAS said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to social inclusion, human capital development, and improved learning conditions for persons living with visual impairment across the region.
The donation was implemented in collaboration with education authorities, health institutions, community organisations, and university partners.
Beyond the provision of equipment, the organisation noted that the gesture aligns with its vision of an “ECOWAS of the People,” where inclusive education, dignity, and equal opportunity remain central to regional integration and sustainable social development.
